How to get that 50" Vertical!

I think we spend too much time trying to come up with EASY solutions to feats of athleticism that are CLEARLY not easy!  "I want a 50" Vertical..."  For some this concept bodes much more realistic than others.   We all know the Super Athletes with a little bit of training can develop ASTRONOMICAL verticals with next to no extra hard work...BUT what about the average Joe looking to get that 23" Vertical to a 30!? The KEY to that 30" or 50"…See More

Trainer Tip #3 - Video On Jumper's Knee/Joint Stability

ATTENTION ALL ATHLETES! Ever wonder what the guys who jump RIDICULOUSLY HIGH have that YOU May not?  The truth is, a few things, but most importantly people who jump extremely high typically have extraordinary joint stability.Joint Stability is the sequencing of muscles that surround a joint and their ability to contract during a desired movement.  Excuse me...?Basically, it means that the stronger and smarter the muscles around your joints (knees, ankles, hips etc.) are, the HIGHER YOU WILL…See More

Trainer Tip #2 - JOINT STABILITY IS KEY TO JUMPING HIGHER!

I can absolutely GUARANTEE that the reason you are having the most trouble with Jumping as High as you want is STABILITY!  Stability is our ability to stabilize a joint during an explosive athletic movement, in this case, Jumping! Let's break down the jump.  We have an approach which is used to generate a large amount of speed for the take-off.  No matter if you're a 1-foot or 2-foot jumper, the approach has the same purpose. Next is the transition to the take-off which is composed of a few…See More

Tips From A Professional Trainer #1 - The Core

All too often we are bombarded with information and new 'fad' workouts claiming they can give you a stronger "core".  But what is your core really?  Most of us would answer, abs and obliques...true?   FALSE!The truth is that the core is really the center of any movement we perform.  For example if we are performing a squat then the core of our movement would be yes the abs and obliques, but also the hips, lower back and glutes.  This being said, I try not to toss around the word "core" too…See More

Setting Goals for 2011 -Tyler Ray aka. Jukebox of Project Vertical Talks

So 2010 was a big year for me.  I began the year and progressed the majority of it as a member of Team Flight Brothers.  Up until very recently I was a part of a very exclusive bunch of world class dunkers under the command of Charles Millan.  I will always support TFB, but due to the pursuit of my own personal business career, I made the tough decision to part ways.  I also had a chance to dunk in some pretty fun events including Sprite SlamDunk Showdown Cleveland (3rd Place), Urban Jam…See More

Kobe vs LeBron: The Battle of the Hideous Hairlines

Welcome to the retro-diary of last nights Lakers-Heat game! This lockout-shortened season has given us many horrible basketball games. It’s been painful to watch these teams grind out 80 points every night while the folks at ESPN pretend that nothing’s wrong and move us from one pitiful game to the next. This is the first game I’ve been excited for all season. Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint. 8:00: TNT opens the telecast with a Rise Against song. Bad start.8:05: Shaq talks about his problems…See More
