Welcome to the retro-diary of last nights Lakers-Heat game! This lockout-shortened season has given us many horrible basketball games. It’s been painful to watch these teams grind out 80 points every night while the folks at ESPN pretend that nothing’s wrong and move us from one pitiful game to the next. For the past 2 years the Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown has been labeled as the search for the "best amateur dunkers" in the country but it always turns out to be an exhibition for the best "contest/freestyle dunkers" in the world.  The contest begins each year by hosting a local dunk contest in 8 cities where NBA legends like Dominique Wilkens & special guests judge amateur dunkers. 2011 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown Tour: Washington DC

The Showdown tour saved the best for the last.  The final stop in Washington DC didn't include names you typically here in the "best" dunkers around like a T-Dub, Kenny Dobbs, Air Up There or Werm but it had a long list of great and underrated dunkers from 1-10 including Roscoe Johnson, Jonsey, Flyte, James Hinnant, Kid Dynomite, B-Hops and new comers like 5'8 Jerel Coles.

2011 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown Tour: New York

Before I get to the contest I have to talk about Myree Bowden aka Reemix.  At every event the Showdown All-Stars Reemix and Los put on a dunk exhibition.  They usually kill it and make a few of the contestants either jealous or nervous but it must of been something in the water at the South Street SeaPort in NY that had Reemix jumping like he was possessed by every dunker to ever do the contest.  For about 10 minutes he went through the A-Z of dunks including back to back…
