2011 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown: Vote For Your Favorite Dunker

Greetings,
For the past 2 years the Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown has been labeled as the search for the "best amateur dunkers" in the country but it always turns out to be an exhibition for the best "contest/freestyle dunkers" in the world.  The contest begins each year by hosting a local dunk contest in 8 cities where NBA legends like Dominique Wilkens & special guests judge amateur dunkers. The 8 event winners and 2 winners from an online submission contest go to the semi-finals where it's 100% up to online fans to decide which 4 will compete in the finals for $10k. The finals has taken place the last 2 years at NBA All-star weekend with LeBron James as the one of the judges.
The contest is in the middle of the Semi-finals right now and we are asking the hoop community & blogosphere to spread the word about these dunkers so they can win $10k and the title of "Best Dunker in the World"

The Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown was open to competitors throughout the U.S., Canada (excluding legal residents of Quebec) and Mexico. Competitions were held in eight major U.S. cities during April, May, and June at NBA Nation presented by T-Mobile, the league’s touring vehicle that transforms into a 20,000-square-foot basketball playground. The competitions were open to dunkers, ages 18 and up, to show off their dunking skills before a panel of judges led by NBA Nation Ambassador and dunking legend, Darryl Dawkins. Fans selected one winner from each of the eight cities via SMS text voting.

Prospective dunkers that could not attend the NBA Nation presented by T-Mobile stops or weren’t selected as winners at the local competition were able to upload and submit videos showcasing their best dunks at NBA.com/dunk. A panel of judges picked two winners from the online entries, who, combined with the eight local tour winners, compose the group of 10 semi-finalists. Fans now will narrow the group to four best-of-the-best finalists.

SPECIAL FEATURES FOR BLOGS --------------------

MIAMI BLOGS/WEBSITES
Brandon Lacue aka Werm from FT Lauderdale beat out Michael “AirDogg” Stewart (the guy guarding LeBron in the latest Sprite commercials) at the Miami Showdown.  Heat legend Tim Hardaway was there to witness the 6’3 Werm pull off windmills and between the legs dunks over up to 6 people.

Werm also provided dunk consulting/assistance to Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan in past NBA dunk contests.  His “Scoop” dunk was considered by many the best dunk of last year’s dunk contest.

SAN ANTONIO BLOGS/WEBSITES
Jacob Tucker made a name for himself by putting out a viral yotuube video which earned him an invite to the NCAA dunk contest.  He won it and broke a few stereotypes in the process.  His next move to showing he’s one of the world’s best dunkers was to compete for a Sprite Showdown championship.  He went to San Antonio and beat out YouTube dunk sensation Golden Child.  Tucker now needs your votes so he can compete against the top 3 other Showdown winners.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVeBFrXCcDE&feature=view_all&list=PL902F70E15AD505E8&...

LAKERS BLOGS/WEBSITES
The LA Showdown turned out to be one of the best dunk contests of all-time and the dunker that came out victorious was Kenny Dobbs aka The Dunk Inventor. With millions of Youtube views to his name, Dobbs wanted to show that he’s not a “video dunker” that needs multiple tries and video editing to showcase his skills.  He pulled out variations of all the past dunk contest winners from jumping over somebody while covering his eyes to going between the legs over multiple people. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j01xQwrwGo&feature=view_all&list=PL902F70E15AD505E8&...

California is also represented by two other dunkers that won the Online Submission part of the contest.  AirDogg from LA - known for appearing in music videos and commercials like the last Sprite one with LeBron James. 5’11 Exile from Sacramentio.

CAVS BLOGS/WEBSITES
Zach Jones aka Jonsey is a 6’0, white and from Ohio.  Roscoe Johnson is a YouTube dunk superstar that spent some time with the Harlem Globetrotters before cutting his head on his 1st dunk at the Washington DC Showdown contest.  The crowd had the local Roscoe as their early favorite but everytime Jonsey threw down a powerful between the legs dunk or 360 he started to get more cheers and by the time he faced off with Roscoe in the finals he was the crowd favorite.  Jonsey didn’t disappoint either, throwing down two more power dunks that had power dunker legend Darryl Dawkins out of his seat and led to a Sprite Showdown Championship

The Andrew Bynum Problem

The Lakers have a problem, and his name is Andrew Bynum. As sad as it is to say, basketball’s most legendary player and iconic franchise are having their season marred by a petulant, entitled, and immature man-child.They’re stuck in a Lord of the Flies style power struggle, with Bynum (delusionally) thinking he’s the Lakers’ best player, an aging Kobe desperately clawing for two more rings, and an overwhelmed Mike Brown hopelessly trying to mix the two into a championship. This ongoing playoff…See More

Kobe vs LeBron: The Battle of the Hideous Hairlines

Welcome to the retro-diary of last nights Lakers-Heat game! This lockout-shortened season has given us many horrible basketball games. It’s been painful to watch these teams grind out 80 points every night while the folks at ESPN pretend that nothing’s wrong and move us from one pitiful game to the next. This is the first game I’ve been excited for all season. Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint. 8:00: TNT opens the telecast with a Rise Against song.
